West Virginia sits just a notch below them as a formidable threat, followed by a tight group of teams battling it out in the middle of the pack.
The top of the bracket features heavy hitters, with the top-seeded Jayhawks and the No. 2 seed Mountaineers entering as clear favorites to make a deep run. Defending tournament champion Arizona will miss the field entirely after failing to qualify, leaving the door wide open for a new champion to claim the crown.
Under the tournament’s single-elimination setup, the top six seeds have earned an automatic double bye straight into Thursday’s quarterfinals, while seeds 7 and 8 hold a single bye. But strange things have been known to happen in postseason baseball, and the Big 12 is always ripe for chaos.
