It seemed bad enough for the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday when Dylan Cease left their game with an apparent injury.
And then Vladimir Guerrero Jr. got hit by a pitch.
Vladdy left the game, too, and it turned into a nightmare of a day for the Blue Jays.
Cease was taken out of the game at about 1:35 p.m. ET.
Guerrero was removed 20 minutes later.
It wasn’t immediately clear what was wrong with Cease, but given that he signed for seven years and $210 million this offseason, and has been near the top of his game, this isn’t an injury the Blue Jays can afford.
Guerrero’s injury was more obvious. A pitch hit him in his right elbow — that’s the picture above, in which Vladdy gets nailed directly on that back arm.
Vladdy didn’t exactly fight to stay in the game, either.
This day has turned into a nightmare for the #BlueJays
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was just hit on the insider of his right elbow by a pitch and immediately left the game.
He walked right past Schneider and the trainer, straight off the field.

Guerrero’s power stroke hasn’t arrived yet this season, but he’s still the Blue Jays’ franchise player. An absence for him would be brutal.
Considering Toronto is already a bit off the pace, two star injuries in one game is about as bad as it can get. It’ll just make things tougher for a Blue Jays team already encountering plenty of trouble this season.
