The Toronto Blue Jays are relying on their superstar first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., to turn their season around. In fact, it is really a Hail Mary, as he is the absolute best chance to gain any ground in the American League East this summer.
Keegan Matheson of MLB.com labeled Guerrero Jr. as the best hope for getting their season turned around, and it is painfully obvious.
At the moment, this team resides at 29-31, 9.0 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the division lead. There is still a long season ahead of us, and with that said, the Blue Jays are going to need to start getting a move on now.
As the calendar flips to June, the heat will start to get more consistent, and that has to be true for Guerrero Jr. This season, the first baseman has been solid throughout, but lacking in power. With only three longballs to his credit, that has been sorely missing from the Blue Jays winning formula.
With a batting average of. 298, he has really been raking it at the plate in the last seven games. During that time, he has a .417 batting average and a 1.017 OPS.
All that sounds great now, but with the countless injuries and other obstacles getting in the way of the Blue Jays, they need No. 27 to kick it into another gear. Particularly, in the home-run hitting department.
Can this team’s most valuable player give this team the boost it needs to chase down the Rays?
