Bob Baffert horses in 2026 Kentucky Derby: Meet Litmus Test, Potente

Bob Baffert is aiming for history at the Kentucky Derby. Again.

The controversial trainer has six Kentucky Derby wins with the most recent coming in 2020 with Authentic. That’s tied with Ben Jones for the most in the prestigious event’s history.

For a time Baffert was the sole owner of the Kentucky Derby wins record, but that seventh win turned into a disqualification and eventually a ban. Medina Spirit, Baffert’s winning horse in 2021, tested positive for the corticosteroid betamethasone after the race and got DQ’d.

Churchill Downs-incorporated tracks proceeded to ban Baffert for three years. Baffert returned to the Kentucky Derby in 2025 with Citizen Bull and Rodriguez. Citizen Bull would finish 15th while Rodriguez was scratched due to a foot bruise.

This year, Baffert brings Potente (23/1) and Litmus Test (34/1) to the Run for the Roses. Potente is jockeyed by Juan J. Hernandez with Martin Garcia riding Litmus Test.

While those aren’t the strongest odds, you can never count out Baffert. The 73-year-old will see how his horses fare with the post time approaching at 6:57 p.m. ET.
