The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball in Jacob Misiorowski. He’s in just his second season, and he’s already a Cy Young contender.

This season, he has a 2.12 ERA with 80 strikeouts in nine starts, which is the most strikeouts in baseball so far. A big reason for his strikeout upside is the velocity that he can get on his fastball, eclipsing 100 mph consistently.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today highlighted one statistic, which, while straightforward, is a ridiculous one for Misiorowski thats hard to believe is real.

Jacob Misiorowski has a hard-to-believe 100 mph statistic

“How nasty is Misiorowski? He has thrown 233 pitches clocked at 100 mph or faster this season. The other starters in baseball have combined for 144,” Nightengale writes.

Of all the starting pitchers in baseball, in which there are a lot, not many can throw 100 mph. But there are more than there have been in the past.

And yet, all of those starting pitchers combined still have thrown fewer pitches of 100 mph or more this season.

It’s not just that Misiorwoski has more 100 mph pitches than any starting pitcher in baseball this season, it’s that, according to Nightengale, he has them beat even combined.

He’s thrown 233 pitches of at least 100 mph this season, while every other starting pitcher in baseball, at least 149 pitchers, have thrown just 144 such pitches.

The 24-year-old is not just a Cy Young contender and one of the best young pitchers in the sport; he’s doing something that no other pitcher can even remotely compare to.
