This may have done Lorenzo Cain one better.
Nashville Sounds (AAA) outfielder Jordyn Adams made a highlight-reel game-clinching catch Thursday, May 14, turning it into a wild double play to end the game and save a 6-5 victory against the Iowa Cubs in Tennessee.
With runners at the corners and one out, Iowa’s Justin Dean sent a ball into the right-field corner that might have cleared the fence had Adams not made a leaping save right in front of the 310-foot marker. Adams knocked the ball high into the air and then corralled it for the catch.

Not only that, but Adams immediately threw the ball to first baseman Brock Wilken, where runner Christian Bethancourt had strayed too far, for a game-ending double play. It was an eye-popping extra note to a play that might remind Brewers fans of Cain’s game-saving catch on Opening Day in 2019.
The play appeared on ESPN “SportsCenter’s” top 10. It actually went down in the scorebook as a sacrifice fly, given that runner Jonathon Long tagged and scored before the double play was completed.
Prospects Jett Williams and Cooper Pratt both had two hits for the Sounds, including a double and triple for Williams, and Jeferson Quero homered in the fifth inning for the Sounds. Tyler Black also doubled in a run for Nashville.
Adams, a former first-round pick for the Los Angeles Angels in 2019 has 38 career big-league games with L.A. and Baltimore over the past three seasons. The 26-year-old was signed by the Brewers as a free agent in the offseason and began the year at Biloxi in Class AA, where he launched a 458-foot home run before getting promoted to AAA. He has a .683 OPS over two minor-league stops this year.
It was an unforgettable catch for a former five-star wide receiver recruited to play football (and baseball) at North Carolina.
Bizarre outfield play at Biloxi turns into an inside-the-park home run
On the other side of the spectrum is what happened to Biloxi right fielder Damon Keith on May 13.
Montgomery Biscuits batter and Rays prospect Austin Overn hit a line-drive grounder to right that Keith chased into the corner. As he lunged for the ball, he slid and landed on top of it, which caused the ball to lodge deep into the grass. The awkward landing left Keith in pain – he was fine and appeared in the lineup the next day – all while Overn was motoring around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
Afterward, umpires had to use considerable effort to remove the ball from its lodging in the turf. The Shuckers still won the game, 11-3.
Overn also hit a ball over the fence in the game for a more conventional home run, plus another home run May 14, with eight hits in three games.
