Caden Glauber named ACC freshman of the year

North Carolina is the No. 2 team in the country, according to both D1Baseball and USA TODAY Sports, largely because of its pitching staff.

One key member, reliever Caden Glauber, has been rewarded for his efforts as ACC Freshman of the Year — the program’s first Freshman of the Year since Aaron Sabato in 2019 — and he hasn’t pitched like a typical freshman. He earned the honor with a blend of volume, efficiency and poise in high-leverage situations.

Glauber has had an impressive freshman season and has become a key piece of North Carolina’s bullpen. He is 8-0 over 22 appearances, including two starts, and leads the ACC with a 1.94 ERA. In 64 1/3 innings, he has allowed 17 runs (14 earned) on 40 hits, with 33 walks and a team-high 74 strikeouts.

He is second on the team with four saves and is a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist. Glauber did not allow a run in 13 of his 22 outings and recorded a season-high eight strikeouts against Louisville on March 22.He joins Jason DeCaro as one of two pitchers from UNC’s staff to earn first-team All-ACC honors. Ryan Lynch and Walker McDuffie also earned All-ACC recognition.
