Caitlin Clark admits it’s ‘exhausting’ dealing with trash talkers

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark talks with media Friday, May 22, 2026, before a game against the Golden State Valkyries at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever took down the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday to improve to 4-2 on the season, good for the second-best record in the WNBA as of Monday afternoon. At one point during the game, things got heated between Clark and Valkyries forward Tiffany Hayes, with the two getting in each other’s faces after Clark hit a deep three over Hayes.

After the game, Clark was asked by a reporter about the intensity of the exchange and what it’s like dealing with those intense moments in a game.

“Yeah, I think that’s just being a competitor, and like, that’s what’s fun. That’s what I love about it,” Clark said. “And like, I think that’s what gets the crowd into it too and gets my teammates hyped up. And I think there’s times I can probably find a little bit better of a balance because like doing all that is a little bit exhausting too.

“I just love the game. I love being out there, and I love those moments and getting the crowd hype. And, you know, I think that just brings out the best in both teams. Like, this is a great game, a lot of great competitors on both sides.”

Clark went on to praise the job Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase has done.

“Natalie’s done a great job coaching them. She gets them to compete no matter what. Like, they played a tough game and won last night in New York, and they came in here and you wouldn’t have known that.”

Hayes, Nakase, and the Valkyries will have a chance to even the season series with Indiana on Thursday, when they play host to Clark and company.
