Few people can understand the pressure that comes with being a star athlete. That is why Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has leaned on Los Angeles Lakers legend LeBron James for support throughout her basketball career.
Clark, who is a two-time WNBA All-Star and was the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, said she has developed a friendship with James over the years. In a recent interview, Clark said James supported her when she suffered season-ending groin and ankle injuries last summer.
“I mean, I think LeBron has just been there to support me more than anything,” Clark said to ESPN’s Malika Andrews. “He understands the microscope that I’m under and the spotlight that’s on me and I think he just wants to be there for me more than anything.
“When I was hurt last year, he reached out and was like, ‘Is there any way I can help you? Like, is there anybody I can connect you with?’ Just somebody that’s there trying to help you, trying to help make the game better, help you improve. I think that’s a lot of our relationship now.”
Back in March, Clark called James her “G.O.A.T.” after she took action photos of him playing against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Clark is now healthy and made her return to the court for the Fever’s season opener against the Dallas Wings on Saturday. She scored 20 points and recorded five rebounds and seven assists across 31 minutes. Indiana ultimately fell short, losing 104-107 to Dallas.
Meanwhile, James is getting ready for Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The defending NBA champions currently have a 2-0 lead over the Lakers.
