Casey Mize exits Tigers game with injury after four scoreless innings

Casey Mize appears to be injured.

Again.

The 29-year-old right-hander exited the game for the Detroit Tigers after completing the fourth inning Wednesday, May 27, against the Los Angeles Angels at Comerica Park. He threw just 58 pitches across four scoreless innings.

The specific injury is unknown, but Mize showed discomfort in his lower body after striking out Jorge Soler for the second out in the fourth inning. After the inning, he walked into the clubhouse with assistant athletic trainer Kelly Rhoades.

This marks Mize’s second injury this season.

Mize previously returned May 16 from a 17-day stint on the injured list with a right adductor strain.

In 2026, Mize owns a 2.27 ERA with 12 walks and 49 strikeouts across 47⅔ innings in nine starts. He kept the Angels scoreless through four innings, dominating with six strikeouts to avoid damage on two hits and one walk.

In Wednesday’s game, the Tigers replaced Mize with right-handed reliever Drew Anderson.

Mize becomes a free agent in November 2026.
