Cavs bringing youth basketball academy to Stark County YMCAs

The YMCA of Central Stark County is teaming up with the Cleveland Cavaliers to bring the Cavs Summer Basketball Academy to Stark County youth on June 12.

The one-day basketball academy will take place at two YMCA locations:

  • 9 to 11:30 a.m., Alliance Family YMCA
  • 1:30 to 4 p.m., Eric Snow Family YMCA in Canton

The academy is open to boys and girls, ages 8–14, and will provide participants with high-energy basketball instruction focused on skill development, teamwork, fundamentals and fun.

Instruction will be led by the Cleveland Cavaliers Junior Cavs staff along with community volunteers.

The cost of the academy is free for families who qualify under TANF assistance, or $75 per camper for general registration.

Every participant will receive an official camp jersey and basketball.

“This academy is an incredible opportunity for young people in our community to learn the game from experienced instructors while building confidence, character, and healthy habits,” Michael Brown of the YMCA of Central Stark County said in a statement.

“We are excited to partner with the Cleveland Cavaliers to bring this experience directly to Stark County families.”

Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, stop by the Alliance Family YMCA or the Eric Snow Family YMCA or visit www.ymcastark.org.
