One of the biggest stories in professional sports in general right now centers around the fact that the Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora on Saturday night, seemingly out of the blue.
Unsurprisingly, this has led to a wide range of reactions, including from shortstop Trevor Story, who questioned the direction of the organization as a whole in the aftermath of the move to get rid of Cora.
“I mean obviously, it’s kind of up in the air what the true direction of the franchise is,” Story said. “Some of the best coaches in the world didn’t get a fair shot. … He had our backs every single day. He was very truthful with players and took bullets for us and did everything you can ask for and more as a manager. I just can’t express how thankful I am to have played for him. Yeah, I’ve got a love for that guy.”
This is one of the biggest stories in professional sports right now and extends beyond just baseball. For example, Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla weighed in on Cora getting ousted, as transcribed by Zack Cox of the Boston Herald.
“I’m grateful I got to learn from him, and wherever he goes, I know he’ll be good. But he does a great job just building relationships, communication. I learned a ton from him,” Mazzulla said.
This story isn’t going away anytime soon. What’s next for Boston?
