Chargers coach reacts to QB Justin Herbert missing offseason workouts to spend time with girlfriend Madison Beer

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has spoken out about his quarterback, Justin Herbert, missing practice to support his girlfriend, Madison Beer, on her live music tour.

The second phase of the Los Angeles Chargers’ 2026 offseason program ran for three weeks this month and concluded May 22. Herbert, 28, skipped the last two weeks of the voluntary team workouts to attend the start of his girlfriend’s Locket Tour, which opened in Kraków, Poland, on May 11.

However, Herbert’s coach had no issue with his absence. During a Wednesday press conference for the Chargers, Harbaugh said, “I was happy he went to support Madison on her music tour. Madison supports him at the football games.

“He told me he wasn’t gonna be here for those two weeks, and my first reaction was, ‘Do you need a ride to the airport?’ He’s just been somebody that is just here all the time. There’s times I’ve wanted to shoo him out of the building. He’s at every voluntary, every non-voluntary workout.

“The same guy that broke his hand, and then he was here the next day practicing,” he added, referring to Herbert fracturing his non-throwing hand in December. “The next game, stiff-arming guys. Yeah, I was happy. Good balance.”

Harbaugh also confirmed that Herbert had returned to the offseason training program for Phase Three, which lasts four weeks.

Over the next month, the Chargers could conduct up to 10 days of organized team practice, according to the team’s official website. Although live contact is not permitted, 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed. The team will then hold its mandatory minicamp, including three days of training, in June.

Despite his busy football career, Herbert has continued to support Beer, 27. He made an appearance in the singer’s music video for her song “lovergirl,” which came out May 8. The clip showed the couple walking along the beach, hugging on a park bench and posing in a photo booth.

The couple confirmed their relationship in October when they were seen kissing on the sidelines of a Chargers game against the at SoFi Stadium. They’ve been photographed on several dates since then, including at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy gala in January.

In April, Herbert posted a photo on Instagram of himself and his girlfriend hugging, alongside the caption: “My world!”

Beer’s Locket Tour, in support of her latest album, Locket, continues its European run through May 31 before heading to North America, where a series of shows will take place from June 8 to July 13.
