Just a year on from departing Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho is set to leave Chelsea.
In a £40 million deal last summer, the London club signed the Argentine, whom Manchester United pushed out the door at Old Trafford.
But it was a disappointing season for Garnacho. The 22-year-old scored just one Premier League goal in 24 matches under Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, failing to impress.
Garnacho is staying away from Chelsea’s pre-season preparation, making it clear he is not in new manager Xabi Alonso’s plans. With reported interest from elsewhere in the Premier League, Europe and the Saudi Pro League, the club are moving closer to moving the player on.
Manchester United retain a 10% sell-on clause, but it’s unlikely to come of much use – Chelsea will be lucky to make any profit on this deal.
The London club, as they tend to do, are working on a transfer as Garnacho departs. According to Italian outlet Il Resto del Carlino, Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe is on Chelsea’s radar, and the club have made contact with his agent. The Serie A side wish to keep the winger who provided them 12 goal contributions last season, and no official offers have yet been made.
Aston Villa, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are also reportedly interested in Jonathan Rowe, making any potential transfer that slight bit more difficult for the Blues.
Characteristically for Chelsea, the club do have other options. Crysencio Summerville, reportedly a Manchester United target this summer, Yan Diomande and Francisco Trincao are all players on the club’s shortlist.
A move for Rowe would be an interesting one for Chelsea. Since leaving Championship side Norwich City in 2024, the Englishman has vastly improved his game and could return to the country as a revitalised player.
With Alejandro Garnacho set to depart, Manchester United won’t feel any pity towards their former player, whose attitude came into question during his time at the club.
