Track has been arguably CSU’s premier athletic program in its time in the Mountain West and the men’s track and field team secured the 2026 outdoor Mountain West title on May 16 in Fresno.
It completes a sweep of indoor and outdoor MW titles for the men this year.
CSU men win as Brian Bedard earns top award
The CSU men finished with 200 points, way ahead of second-place Air Force at 149. Bedard was again named the Mountain West men’s track and field Coach of the Year.
It’s the second year in a row CSU’s men have won both the MW indoor and outdoor titles.
Here are some of the winners and notable performances from CSU’s men:
- Kenny Carpenter: Won the 400-meter dash in 45.85 seconds
- Trenton Givens: Won the 110 hurdles in 13.55 seconds
- Carsen Bruns: Won the 400 hurdles in 50.88
- Ndayiragije Shukurani: Won the high jump with a top mark of 7-feet, 1 and 3/4 inches; Won the triple jump with a top mark of 50-10.25.
- Hammer throw: CSU’s Adam Hellbom (second), Leonardo Ramos (third) and Kyle Bigley (fourth) finished top four.
- Mateo Munoz: Won the decathlon with 7,557 points
CSU women dominate throws
The CSU women finished second as a team with 135.5 points with New Mexico winning with 190.
Here are some of the winners and most notable performances from the CSU women:
- Neya Jamison: Won the 400 hurdles in 57.02
- Shot put: A CSU sweep of the top medals as Makayla Long won (58-01) with Erin Brown second (53-03.5) and Klaire Kovatch third (48-09). Kajsa Borrman was seventh in the event.
- Discus: Another CSU sweep of 1-2-3. Kovatch won at 191-07 with Borrman second at 190-06 and Long third at 185-09. Katy Taylor was fifth, Jet Van Der Heijden was seventh and Brown was eighth as CSU racked up 31 team points in the event.
- Hammer throw: Borrman defended her title and won with a top mark of 216-11. Long was second at 197-10. Kovatch was fifth and Brown sixth.
