With the Indianapolis Colts making two recent roster moves at the running back position, let’s take a look at the current state of this unit.
On Monday, the Colts announced that they signed Anderson Castle and waived Jordon Vaughn.
Castle went undrafted this past April out of Duke. He rushed for 488 yards this past season — a career-high — while scoring 12 touchdowns. Of note, He is a very experienced special teams player with over 600 snaps at the college level.
Castle is another big-bodied back, measuring in at 5-11 and weighing 221 pounds.
Vaughn was signed as an undrafted rookie following the 2026 NFL draft by the Colts.
Indianapolis Colts updated running back depth chart
Leading the way at this position will be Jonathan Taylor, who will continue to shoulder the bulk of the workload. However, behind Taylor, the RB2 role is up for grabs. Presumably competing for those snaps are DJ Giddens and rookie Seth McGowan.
Beyond making an impact as a ball carrier, the ability to affect the passing game, especially in pass protection, and help on special teams can be differentiators in determining how the running back depth chart shakes out.
Behind Taylor, this is a very inexperienced position group.
