Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr trophy curse: Four lost finals and zero major trophies

Cristiano Ronaldo has been earning rave reviews with his performances in Saudi Arabia since joining Al Nassr in December 2022.

He has registered an incredible 121 goals in 141 appearances across all competitions.

At 41, Ronaldo still remains the most reliable goalscorer for Al Nassr, with the forward hitting 28 so far this season.

However, despite his outstanding individual numbers, the Portuguese has failed to lift a major trophy with the Riyadh-based outfit.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Japan’s Gamba Osaka was another heartbreaking moment for Ronaldo, as he lost another opportunity to win silverware with Al-Nassr.

Jorge Jesus’ side made it to the final of the AFC Champions League Two after crushing Al-Ahli 5-1 in the last four.

But they failed to become the first Saudi team to win the second-tier Asian continental crown after Deniz Hummet’s 29th-minute winner.

Ronaldo couldn’t control his emotions and broke down in tears after the loss in front of the 26,000 home fans at the King Saud University Stadium.

The former Real Madrid star has now lost four finals since his arrival in Saudi Arabia.

The first came in 2023-24 when Ronaldo’s team were beaten on penalties in the King’s Cup final by Al-Hilal.

The Blue Waves also defeated Al-Nassr in the 2024 Saudi Super Cup, and they lost the 2025 edition of the competition to Al-Ahli on penalties.

However, Ronaldo can still win the Saudi Pro League, as his side are currently two points ahead of second-placed Al-Hilal ahead of their final game of the season.
