ARLINGTON, Texas — The Diamondbacks meet the Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday, May 12.
Opening Day starter Zac Gallen tries to keep the Diamondbacks rotation’s string of strong starts going. In a 1-0 victory Monday night, May 11, right-hander Michael Soroka worked 6 1/3 innings, the seventh consecutive game in which a Diamondbacks starter worked at least six innings.
Gallen faces a team against which he has found success. In six regular-season starts against the Rangers, Gallen has a 2.67 ERA. He faced them twice last season, giving up three runs in 11 innings.
Early May 12, the Diamondbacks traded struggling outfielder Alek Thomas to the Los Angeles Dodgers, sources confirmed, in exchange for a lower-level prospect.

At Globe Life Field: Gallen gave up four runs in six innings against the Pirates in his most recent start. He allowed a pair of solo homers plus two more runs that came during a two-out Pirates rally in the fifth inning. … Gallen has gotten decent results with his fastball (.274 average, .355 slugging) but has elicited very little swing and miss with the pitch, getting whiffs at only a 4.5 percent clip. … Gore was traded for the second time in his career in January, going from Washington to Texas in a six-player deal. … He still has lively stuff and a deep pitch mix but gets inconsistent results. He had a nice four-start run to start the season but has given up 16 runs in 19 innings over his past four starts. … Gore started twice against the Diamondbacks in 2024, giving up 17 hits and three walks but only seven runs (five earned) in 10 1/3 innings.
