Sports media requires a set of ethics that cannot be broken, and prominent NFL reporter Dianna Russini just learned that reality the hard way.
Russini’s growing scandal with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel continues to take on new developments. However, the overarching storyline that’s being neglected stems from the nature of Russini’s profession.

Vrabel announced leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft that he won’t be with the team during Day 3 of the festivities. Meanwhile, it’s highly unlikely that Vrabel will suffer any further consequences from the Patriots, especially considering the fact that they just played in Super Bowl 60.

Russini’s repercussions are far greater though and already led her to resigning from her role at The Athletic. The longtime NFL reporter stepped away prior to the latest backlash that came from Thursday’s Page Six bombshell.
Russini loses all credibility after NFL scandal with Vrabel
Photos emerged this week of Russini and Vrabel kissing during a New York City bar experience in March 2020. However, the bigger issue with the alleged extra-marital relationship is that Russini’s role as a reporter requires objectivity and professionalism.
The Page Six story indicates that the two were together on March 11, 2020 when they shared a kiss. Meanwhile, Russini reported on the Tennessee Titans’ lack of interest in Tom Brady just four days later.

This becomes a more significant issue due to the fact that Vrabel was still coaching the Titans during that period of time. Many NFL fans and other reporters will now speculate how exactly she got that information.
The Athletic launched its own investigation into Russini weeks ago prior to her leaving the major sports media outlet. However, it’s unclear exactly what their search yielded given the fact that she’s not employed there any longer.

Russini spent many years as one of the featured NFL insiders in prominent roles with ESPN and The Athletic. Meanwhile, she’s regularly featured on other popular TV shows, podcasts and radio programs.
It’s clear that both Russini and Vrabel have serious work to do in their own personal lives, especially considering they’re married to other people.
However, the veteran journalist’s code of ethics certainly need to be examined further before ever getting another chance in NFL media.
