Bayern Munich fell flat in a 1-1 home draw to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of its Champions League semifinals tie on Wednesday. The results sees the Bavarians go down 5-6 on aggregate, having failed to produce enough at the Allianz after a season full of high-scoring hijinks.
This is a defeat that will sting Bayern players and fans for a long time — no matter how the rest of the season has gone. Bayern remains in contention for a domestic double, which is not a small feat in itself.
“We deservedly won the league title. We’re looking forward to the [DFB-Pokal] final in Berlin. But right now, disappointment prevails,” Neuer said immediately after the match in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia.
The Bavarians now have just three games remaining in the season: a trip away to VfL Wolfsburg this Saturday followed by the Bundesliga finale versus FC Köln on May 16th. Finally, Bayern will face off against VfB Stuttgart on May 23rd for the DFB-Pokal Final…before sitting at home to watch PSG defend its crown against Arsenal on May 30th in Budapest.
