A few days ago, the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Double-A affiliate, the Tulsa Drillers, had an unfortunate freak injury happen to prospect Kendall George.
After he scored, George jumped out of the way of a bat dog, and he sustained an injury after avoiding the dog. It’s a freak accident, and one that should never have happened.
Jack Harris of The California Post reported a few days later that, unsurprisingly, the Drillers have suspended the bat dog program following this freak injury.

“I’m told the Tulsa Drillers are planning to suspend their bat dog program after Kendall George’s freak injury this week,” Harris reports.
This situation is not likely to happen ever again, as the Dodgers’ affiliate is planning to end the bat dog program. As much fun as a bat dog can be, this incident has put a damper on any of said fun.
George is feared to have sustained a serious injury, as Harris reported it might be a patellar injury, which would be a very worrying one.

This freak accident is a huge shame, as the bat dog program can be a very fun one for fans if done correctly. But, in this instance, it led to a Dodgers prospect being hurt.
George, the 21-year-old prospect who’s one of the best in the Dodgers farm system, has elite speed. But, this injury not only will force him to miss a lot of time this season if it’s as bad as it’s feared to be, but it will impact him for years.
This situation is a very unfortunate one, and based on this report from Harris, the bat dog program is likely ending for the Drillers.
