Dodgers send Enrique Hernández back to IL with oblique tear, lose Teoscar Hernández to apparent hamstring injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost both Enrique Hernández and Teoscar Hernández due to injuries on Wednesday.

The Dodgers placed Enrique on the injured list on Wednesday due to a “significant tear” in his oblique. While a timeline for his return is not yet known, Enrique is expected to be out for several weeks if not months.

“It’s certainly warranting an IL stint,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, via ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, “but I don’t really know as far as the time to return.”

Enrique only made his season debut on Monday after recovering from offseason elbow surgery. He injured his oblique while taking batting practice before his debut on Monday, though he ended up playing in that game and on Tuesday night. But, in the Dodgers’ 15-6 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, Enrique left the game early after hitting both a home run and a double. He was clearly shaken up in the dugout.

“I feel pretty defeated right now,” he said after the game.

Then on Wednesday night, Teoscar pulled up awkwardly in the second inning while trying to run out a ground ball at first base. He jogged off the field on his own, but was seen reaching for the back of his left leg both on the field and once he reached the dugout.

Teoscar was visibly upset in the dugout, too, and slammed his helmet a few times before walking off.

The Dodgers ruled him out quickly with a hamstring injury, and he was replaced by Hyeseong Kim in left field. Further specifics are not yet known. Teoscar entered Wednesday night’s contest with a .278 batting average and seven home runs this season, his third with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers entered Wednesday with a 35-20 record. They’ve won 11 of their last 13 and hold a narrow lead in the NL West standings. The Dodgers will open a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies next on Friday.

While the team is in a solid position as the second full month of the regular season wraps up, losing two significant pieces to injuries in back-to-back nights is undoubtedly frustrating.
