If a ceremonial first pitch can be a bad omen for a quarterback, the one that Malik Willis threw out at Friday’s Miami Marlins game was a terrible omen.
The new Miami Dolphins QB, signed in free agency from the Green Bay Packers, didn’t just miss the strike zone. He missed everything.
Give Willis just a tiny bit of credit from throwing off the mound, all the way from the rubber, 60 feet and 6 inches away from home plate.
Don’t give him credit for anything else.
It would be hard to throw a worse pitch than this:

There have been some bad first pitches before, but those are often from people we wouldn’t think about as athletes.
This is a guy who just signed a big contract to throw accurately in the most popular sports league in the United States.
Willis really can’t toss a baseball in a somewhat straight line?
Of course, it’s not a football. The mechanics aren’t actually the same. But still — doesn’t he have to have at least something a bit more valiant effort-wise than this?
Willis has the potential to be an exciting dual-threat QB in Miami. Dolphins fans will just be hoping he can throw it a little better than this.
