Donald Trump unveils special UFC White House belt; Ilia Topuria roasts Justin Gaethje in the Oval Office

The UFC White House event is only one month away. On Wednesday, the four fighters atop the lineup visited the nation’s capital early to reveal an event-exclusive UFC belt alongside U.S. President Donald Trump.

At his desk in the Oval Office, Trump was joined by the men set to compete for titles in two of the seven UFC White House bouts on June 14 in Washington, D.C.

Lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and former two-division king Alex Pereira stood to Trump’s right, while their respective opponents, Justin Gaethje and Ciryl Gane, stood to his left. Atop the desk sat the special UFC title designed for the event, featuring the American flag and highlighting the country’s upcoming 250th Independence Day on July 4.

Trump did his best to briefly hype the fights in front of the media, starting with the main event for Topuria’s 155-pound crown. As the lone American among the four men, Gaethje was highlighted by the President, a fact the champion playfully reacted to.

“Why you want to give the toughest test to a friend of yours?” Topuria asked Trump.

UFC CEO Dana White has openly acknowledged the difficulty of staging an outdoor event on the White House lawn. Despite the event being closed off to the public and having a small 4,500-person attendance limit, fans will be able to sit in an 85,000-100,000-capacity venue — The Elipse — across the street and watch the event for free on large screens throughout the venue.

In addition to the UFC White House titles, Trump revealed more visual imagery of what the event — dubbed UFC Freedom 250 — is expected to look like.

“I think it’s going to be the biggest event we’ve ever had at the White House,” Trump said. “The White House doesn’t really do athletic events for the most part. These are all the greatest champions. They’re the greatest fighters in the world. You can tell by looking at them.

“All people are invited. Our country is invited to this. It’s free.”
