Niko Kovač’s side raced into a three-goal lead through Maximilian Beier, Serhou Guirassy and Ramy Bensebaini, before substitute Fabio Silva added a late fourth to cap an impressive evening. The result strengthens Dortmund’s grip on second place, opening up a five-point cushion with just three games remaining.

Dortmund wasted little time asserting their dominance, immediately putting Freiburg under sustained pressure. The breakthrough arrived after just eight minutes when a long ball from Bensebaini caught the Freiburg defence off guard. Beier reacted quickest, racing through on goal before calmly finishing past Noah Atubolu, who was making his 100th appearance for the club.

The hosts doubled their lead six minutes later. A swift counter-attack saw the ball worked out to Julian Brandt on the right, and his pinpoint cross was met by Guirassy, who powered a header home from close range.

Relentless in their approach, Dortmund continued to carve open the Freiburg defence. Their third goal arrived just past the half-hour mark, with Julian Ryerson registering his ninth assist of the season as he delivered a precise ball into the box for Bensebaini, who emphatically headed beyond Atubolu to make it 3-0.

Freiburg showed signs of improvement after the break and briefly thought they had pulled one back when Lukas Kübler headed in a Vincenzo Grifo free-kick. However, VAR intervened to rule the goal out for offside, further compounding a frustrating evening for the visitors.

With the result effectively secured, Dortmund eased through the remainder of the match in controlled fashion. They added further gloss late on when Fabio Silva picked up the ball inside the area, showing excellent strength and composure to hold off his marker before turning and firing into the corner in the 87th minute.

The victory brings an end to Dortmund’s brief run of back-to-back defeats and puts them firmly on course for a second-place finish. Freiburg, meanwhile, suffer their first league loss since early April and remain eighth heading into the final stretch of the season.
