Duke’s ACC softball championship path revealed

Duke softball’s path to a third ACC softball championship has become clear as seeding, and the tournament bracket was revealed by the conference Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Devils secured the No. 2 seed, behind only Florida State, and will square off against the winner of the 7-10 matchup between defending ACC-champion Clemson and North Carolina.

Duke defeated UNC two games to one when the squads met in Chapel Hill April 10-12, with the rubber match being highlighted by a multi-home run game from USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalist Aminah Vega.

Just 12 days later, the Blue Devils played host to Clemson for their regular-season finale. Duke once again won two out of three, including a 10-2 run-rule victory in Game 1.

The Blue Devils, led by sixth-year head coach Marissa Young, finished the regular season 33-12 with a 16-3 record versus ACC opponents.

Duke’s most recent ACC championship came in 2024 with a win in the finals against Florida State when the Blue Devils hosted the tournament in Durham. This was also the last time the program traveled to the Women’s College World Series.

For now, Duke will sit back and relax as they await their first-round opponent. Their Round 2 game will take place at 5 p.m. ET at Palmer Park in Charlottesville, Virginia.
