Eagles sign former Saints wide receiver after A.J. Brown trade

Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Samori Toure signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday morning, just hours before the franchise’s much-anticipated trade of A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.

Late last season, Toure joined the Saints’ practice squad as a potential depth option after the team’s receiving corps was heavily impacted by injuries and in-season departures. After patiently waiting for an opportunity, he was elevated to the active roster ahead of New Orleans’ regular-season finale against the Atlanta Falcons.

Toure recorded his lone catch of the season in that contest, hauling in a three-yard reception from quarterback Tyler Shough in a hard-fought loss to close out the year.

Just a few months later, on April 27, Toure’s time in New Orleans came to an end. The Saints waived the former Green Bay Packers receiver shortly after the NFL Draft, following the team’s decision to invest heavily in the wide receiver position. New Orleans selected three receivers, including Arizona State standout Jordyn Tyson in the first round, creating a crowded competition for roster spots.

Now, Toure heads to Philadelphia with an opportunity to carve out a role in a receiving room that has just lost its bona fide No. 1 target.
