Ernie Clement has some of the most remarkable hands at the plate in Major League Baseball.

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ infielder doesn’t have incredible power, but he can hit almost anything you throw him. And sometimes that does come with some pop, too.

That’s what happened on Tuesday night.

Clement took a Sandy Alcantara pitch up and out of the strike zone on a ride deep to left field for a home run.

It was the highest pitch hit for a home run by a Blue Jays hitter this season — something that despite his lack of overall raw strength, Clement is as capable of doing as anyone:

The official measurement was 3.76 feet off the ground. Somehow, it seems higher than that, but Clement will take the home run either way.

Ernie wasn’t done, either. He hit a second homer later in the game.

He was aided by a Jesus Sanchez grand slam and a Yohendrick Pinango home run, too, to lead the Blue Jays to a dominant win over the Miami Marlins.

Ernie Clement was supposed to regress offensively and instead he’s got a 121 wRC+. The regression on the defensive side could rob him of a 4+ fWAR season.

Toronto would certainly like to find a groove at some point, because this hasn’t been a good campaign for the Blue Jays so far.

Maybe they’ll wake up after Clement went way up to get a pitch and hit it out. It’s as good a way to spark a team as any.
