The wait continues for the Pittsburgh Steelers to see if Aaron Rodgers will return in 2026 to be their starting quarterback.

The fact that we are now in May, and still don’t have a decision, plus reports that Rodgers was supposed to visit the Steelers’ facility over the weekend, but didn’t, just adds another layer to what is quickly becoming a circus.

Fans are at a loss to explain why the Steelers seem content to wait on a 42-year-old quarterback with a clear ceiling for how far he can take the team.

But ESPN’s Dan Graziano has shed light on the possible reason Pittsburgh is so content with playing the waiting game.

“The answer here seems to be that they liked what they got out of Aaron Rodgers last season, believe he can do it again and thought that running it back with him was their best course of action,” Graziano wrote. “Rodgers, of course, has yet to actually re-sign in Pittsburgh, and no one knows what the holdup is. But they had Rodgers last year, they’re familiar with his quirks, and they seem fine with giving him whatever time he needs to give them an answer.

“No team seems to enjoy its status quo as much as the Steelers do.”

Are Steelers right in waiting for Rodgers?

Well, that is quite a conversation starter, and depending on who you ask, you will get different answers.

We know what Rodgers is, and his ceiling as far as how far he can take the Steelers. A 9-8 season and a possible playoff berth. But that’s been the case for years in Pittsburgh now.

So why not try something different with Will Howard or a younger player?

It is clear the franchise wants to wait for Rodgers, and that decision has been met with pushback for obvious reasons.

Time will tell if the Steelers are right.
