Falcons take Game 1 in regional finals

A strong complete game pitching performance from James Reynolds and two early runs helped the NCLA varsity baseball team claim a 4-1 win over visiting Chatham Charter on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the best-of-three series for the Class 1A West regional championship.

“Chatham is solid,” NCLA Head coach David Sellers said. “They have some good pitching. They guy they threw (Garrison Clark) was a craft lefthander, and he had eight strikeouts. We got two runs on him early, and then he adjusted. My three seniors got the offense going, and (pitcher James) Reynolds threw another good game.”

Reynolds had 12 strikeouts in the game, only gave up three hits and only walked one batter.

In the first inning, a single by Brayden Hatfield, a triple by Hank Gaston and a single by Trent Bryant gave the Falcon a 2-0 lead. An RBI double by Clay Smith pushed the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chatham Charter scored one run in the seventh inning before Reynolds got the final out.

Because of expected heavy rain on Thursday, Game 2 against Chatham Charter was moved to Wednesday after the Kernersville News’ deadline.
