Florida EDGE George Gumbs Jr. selected by Colts in 2026 NFL Draft

Florida edge defender George Gumbs Jr. is heading to the Indianapolis Colts after being selected in the fifth round with the 156th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Gators alumnus brings a fusion of athleticism and latent potential to the next level.

At 6-feet-4-inches and 250 pounds, Gumbs transferred to Gainesville from Northern Illinois and swiftly carved out a role along Florida’s line. Despite taking an unconventional path, as a former offensive player, Gumbs has made significant technical strides in the nuances of the defensive front.

After a 2024 campaign that produced five sacks for the Illinois native, 2025 proved a confirmation of Gumbs’ defensive potential. The redshirt senior tallied six and a half tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in just nine games.

While not technically polished, the 23-year-old flashed a profile that reinforced optimism on his NFL viability. A 4.66-second 40-yard dash, 41-inch vertical and advanced metrics on test for explosion turned heads at this year’s combine. His results ranked among the most dynamic in this class of edge rushers.

Viewed primarily as a work in progress, Gumbs projects as a rotational piece on the Colts’ defensive front.
