Former Dodger Draws Heat for Criticizing NYC Mayor, Embracing Trump

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Noah Syndergaard is under fire for his recent public statements in support of President Donald Trump and denigrating New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Jun 7, 2023; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (43) pitches against the Cincinnati Reds in the first inning at Great American Ball Park.

Syndergaard, who started 12 games for the Dodgers in 2023, recently visited the White House to help promote Trump’s reinstatement of the Presidential Fitness Test.

What did President Trump say about Noah Syndergaard?

The two famous blonds seemed to enjoy each other’s company.

Syndergaard, who said he has been a fan of Trump’s for a long time, was complimented by Tump in the Oval Office.

“Professional baseball pitcher, Noah Syndergaard, sometimes known as Thor, and he looks like Thor to me,” Trump joked, referencing the pitcher’s nickname and long blond hair. “That is a man that I wouldn’t want to get in a fight with.”

After the meeting, Syndergaard said that he’s “envious of the mental energy that this guy has, the sharpness he has, the comedic nature of everything he says,” as detailed by Andrea Peyser in a California Post opinion piece.

“I just really don’t quite understand the negativity or the pessimism he gets with the media and some of the population of this nation, because he’s just such a patriotic guy and he cares so much about everybody and just the health of this nation and the health of this world,” Syndergaard said on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.” “He’s just a joy to be around.”

Syndergaard blames Mayor Mamdani for Mets’ struggles

Appearing on another conservative talk show, OutKick’s “Tami Lahren is Fearless,” Syndergaard was asked about his longtime time, the New York Mets, whose catching coach is Lahren’s husband, J. P. Arencibia.

Despite having the biggest total payroll in baseball, the Mets are 16-25, 12.5 games out of the National League East lead.

Syndergaard had a piece of advice for the Mets: “Stop hanging out with socialist mayors, I guess, probably.”

He was referencing Mamdani, who visited the team last month and has since been called “Mayor Mambino,” a reference to the alleged “Curse of the Bambino” put on the Boston Red Sox after they sold Babe Ruth’s contract.

The Mets aren’t in an 86-year championship drought, but they did have a 12-game losing streak last month.

“I hate saying it, but at the end of the day, the Mets are going to Met and I think I’m allowed to kind of say that because I bled orange and blue for eight years, made it to the World Series with them and just kind of disappointed to see who they’re inviting into their clubhouse and be like just the the lack of success that they’re having,” Syndergaard said. “This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. We have a huge payroll and it’s not a great dividends for them.”
