Four-star edge rusher Mekai Brown discusses USC commitment

Two weeks ago, USC picked up a commitment from four-star edge rusher Mekai Brown. The Connecticut native is one of the top recruits at his position in the class of 2027.

So what made Brown choose USC? In a recent interview with 247Sports, Brown discussed his decision to pick the Trojans.

“I think the culture, the position coach [Shaun Nua], the coaching staff, the players, it’s just been so great every time I’ve been there,” Brown said. “All positive interactions and I am going to a place where not only I think they can develop me on the field but off the field as a student and a man.

“I like the way I can be utilized within this defense. I think they will be able to maximize me. I think I bring a very good combination of speed and power. It’s my game. I can also be [a] finesse player.

“I think putting me on the other side of formations will just be a disaster for the other team.”

With Brown and others, the Trojans are putting together another loaded recruiting class in the 2027 cycle. While the current focus is obviously on the 2026 season, USC fans should be very excited to see the group get on campus next year.
