FSU baseball projected to host NCAA regional in latest field of 64

Florida State baseball is headed to the NCAA Tournament, and if Baseball America’s latest projections hold, the Seminoles won’t just be playing in the field. They’ll be hosting it.

Baseball America’s Jacob Rudner released his conference tournament week projected field of 64 on Monday, slotting Florida State as the No. 10 national seed and projecting the Seminoles to host a regional at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee. As the No. 10 seed, FSU would receive one of the top 16 host sites in the country under the NCAA’s updated seeding format, a significant distinction that reflects the program’s standing among college baseball’s elite entering the final week of the regular season.

In Rudner’s current projection, the Tallahassee Regional would feature No. 10 Florida State as host, No. 23 Oklahoma, Troy out of the Sun Belt, and Rider out of the MAAC as the automatic qualifier. A Tallahassee regional would give the Seminoles a significant home-field advantage with Dick Howser Stadium serving as one of the most electric atmospheres in college baseball during postseason play.

The projection places Florida State among an ACC-heavy field. The ACC has nine projected bids in Rudner’s field of 64, the second-most of any conference, with the SEC leading the way with 12. ACC programs earning projected bids alongside FSU include national seeds Georgia Tech (No. 2), North Carolina (No. 5), Wake Forest (No. 20), Miami, Boston College, Virginia, NC State, and Virginia Tech.

The projected national seed order as of May 18 has UCLA at No. 1, followed by Georgia Tech at No. 2, Georgia at No. 3, Texas at No. 4, North Carolina at No. 5, Auburn at No. 6, Alabama at No. 7, and Texas A&M at No. 8 — with Florida State slotted at No. 10 behind No. 9 Florida. The Seminoles would play Alabama if both win their regional.

The ACC Tournament begins this week, and Florida State’s performance in that bracket will serve as the final data point for the NCAA selection committee before Selection Monday. A strong showing could elevate the Seminoles’ national seed; an early exit could complicate their hosting case. For now, Baseball America’s projection delivers a clear message: Florida State baseball is one of the 10 best programs in the country heading into postseason play.
