It’s win or go home for the top two seeds of the Tallahassee Regional, with Florida State baseball’s season on the brink as the Seminoles face Coastal Carolina in an elimination game on Saturday, May 30.
St. John’s plated four runs in the final two innings, including three in a dreadful eighth inning for FSU, to stun the Seminoles with a 6-5 victory. The Chanticleers ran into a red-hot Northern Illinois team, which won the program’s first regional game, 12-10, behind an eight-run fourth inning.
The upsets now pit the top two seeds of the regional in an elimination game that will feature a pitching matchup befitting of a game in Omaha.
The Seminoles will throw ace lefty Wes Mendes, the ACC Pitcher of the Year, who holds a 2.93 ERA and 9-3 record. The Chanticleers will throw ace and top-20 MLB Draft prospect, righty Cameron Flukey. He has dealt with injury this season and recently returned to the mound at the end of April. He’s made six appearances and holds a 4.35 ERA in 20.2 innings pitched, 28 strikeouts, 20 hits, and seven walks issued.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Howser. Follow live updates from the game with the Tallahassee Democrat live blog!
