The Florida State Seminoles have six commitments in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and while they are working to add more talent to the group, they are also playing defense. Several other programs are trying to flip FSU’s commitments, including four-star safety Mekhi Williams, their highest-ranked commit.
While he has been committed to the Seminoles for over a year, his recruitment is not over, and he recently visited the Wisconsin Badgers. It was his first time visiting them, and it is safe to say they made an impression on him.
“My recruitment with Wisconsin is going great so far! I love the coaches and I really want to get to know a lot more about Wisconsin,” Williams told Badger247.
He went on to reveal where the Badgers stand in his recruitment.
“Man, with everything around, which is great, Wisconsin is most definitely on top of my board right now. I am most definitely considering it right now,” he added.
Williams is ranked as the No. 195 overall player and No. 17 safety in the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-2.5, 160-pounder is also the No. 22 player from Florida. He is FSU’s only commitment ranked inside the top 300 players.
FSU has been recruiting Williams longer than anyone else in the country, becoming the first school to offer him a scholarship back in January of 2025. He joined their class one month later, and while he has continued to listen to other schools, he has kept visiting FSU and remained in their class.
They will have a chance to remind him why on June 5, when he takes his official visits. He will also officially visit Wisconsin and Miami in June.
He had a productive junior season at Lennard High School, causing his recruitment to take off. He finished the year with 33 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups.
