Highlighting 7 Jaguars’ positional battles for OTAs

OTAs for the Jacksonville Jaguars will begin on May 26, marking the unofficial start of several positional competitions that will unfold throughout the summer.

In this third phase of offseason programs, no contact can take place, but teams can do competitive team periods.

Below is a quick look at the potential competitions taking place on the Jaguars‘ roster.

Third quarterback spot

UDFA Joey Aguilar will be competing with Carter Bradley for this role. Last year, the Jaguars carried only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, while the third was on the practice squad.

Running back rotation

I fully expect that we see a lot of both Chris Rodriguez and Bhayshul Tuten this season, but who ends up as RB1 on the depth chart?

Tight end battles

Will Nate Boerkircher take Quintin Morris’ blocking-heavy role as TE2? Will Tanner Koziol’s presence push Hunter Long off the roster?

What about the guard position?

Rookie Emmanuel Pregnon adds size to the Jaguars’ offensive line unit. Could he push Patrick Mekari for playing time?

Defensive end rotation

Wesley Williams, BJ Green, Danny Striggow, and Zach Durfee are all competing for playing time behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker in the defensive tackle rotation.

Is this Ventrell Miller’s job to lose?

The Jaguars have been bullish about Miller stepping into a starting role all offseason, and the lack of major moves at the linebacker position is further proof of that. It looks like this is Miller’s job for the taking.

The third safety spot

Caleb Ransaw, Jalen Huskey, and Rayuan Lane could all be in the mix for that role. While not a starting spot, the third safety sees their share of snaps in Anthony Campanile’s defense.
