Holland Christian soars to MITCA team state title; Zeeland East, West, Saugatuck in top 10

The Holland Christian girls track and field team won the Michigan Interscholastic Track and Field Coaches Association team state meet on Saturday, May 23.

The Maroons scored 1,807 points to hold off Coopersville (1,719) and the rest of the 16-team field in Division 2.

The MITCA meet pits the top teams in the state against each other but scores like a larger dual meet, showing which team has the most depth.

Holland Christian’s Camryn Siegers won the high jump in 5 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Sophie Jones was third in 5-2.

Siegers, a multiple state champion in swimming, has been an all-state performer in the high jump.

Abby VanDusseldorp took second in the 200 meters (27.32). Avery Engbers was second in the 1,600 (5:08.40), while Ellery Lampen was fourth (5:09.94) and Eliana Stob was fifth (5:10.98). Engbers (11:15.04) and Lampen (11:19.97) went 3-4 in the 3,200 meters.

Esther Vanderbilt was second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.81) and 300 hurdles (45.31).

Annika Stob took third in the 400 meters (1:01.49). Layla Geurink (2:19.26) and Eliana Stob (2:20.82) went 3-4 in the 800 meters.

Eliana Stob, Olivia Hollebeek, Annika Stob and Geurink took second in the 4×800 relay (9:36.39).

Kate Van Appledorn finished third in the shot put (38-11) and Miya DeBlecourt was seventh (34-9 3/4). Van Appledorn was seventh in the discus (115-2) and DeBlecourt was ninth (104-11). Kensie Mulder was third in the pole vault (9-9 1/4). Adalyn Halma was third in the long jump (16-7 3/4) and VanDusseldorp was fifth (16-0 3/4).

Division 1

The Zeeland West boys finished fourth at the Division 1 MITCA meet with 1,156 points. Zeeland East was ninth (798.5). East Kentwood won with 1,432.5.

Zeeland West’s Clayton Ramsdell won the high jump in 6-7.

Zeeland West’s Ethan Dalman was fourth in the 400 (51.32). Rob Dodd was fourth in the 800 (1:59.03) and Keagan Smith was 10th (2:01.97). Dodd also took sixth in the 1,600 (4:28.07). Brandon Holman was 10th in the 200 (22.62). Tanner Smith took seventh in the 3,200 (9:50.65). Reid Cousins took fifth in the 300 hurdles (40.99). Jonah Leslie was fifth in the shot put (46-10 3/4). Liam Hallack was ninth in the pole vault (12-0). Holman finishd sixth in the long jump (20-7).

Cousins, Smith, Jack Gruppen and Dodd took second in the 4×800 relay (8:00.38).

Zeeland East’s Samuel Manning took fourth in the 100 meters (11.10). Kameron Compagner was sixth in the 300 hurdles (41.22). Sam Sitesema finished third in the shot put (47-10 1/4) and second in discus (155-10). Bennett Bing was third in the high jump (6-2) and Karson Lamer was sixth (6-2). Austin Lee took third in the pole vault (14-0, fewer attempts) and Andrew Macy was sixth (14-0). Alex Stephens was ninth in the long jump (20-2).

In the Division 1 girls meet, the Zeeland East girls finished fourth with 1,184.5. Zeeland West was eighth (756). Rockford won with 1, 387.

Zeeland East’s Adalyn Raab won the 1,600 meters in 4:55.66 and 3,200 in 11:27.69.

Lily Huizenga won the shot put in 42-4 1/2, going 1-2 with Laura Maartense (37-7). Libby Post won the discus (112-3), Huizenga was fourth (110-0) and Maartense was ninth (102-5).

Meredith Cook finished second in the 400 meters (58.86) and fourth in the 800 (2:21.68).

Tera Schuberg was sixth in the 100 meters (12.91) and fourth in the 200 (25.80). CC Kuras took second in the high jump (5-2), third in the 300 hurdles (46.09) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.03). Brienna Cole was third in the high jump (4-10).Kate Murphy was fifth in the pole vault (10-3). Rogue Kraker was eighth in the long jump (16-1 1/2).

Cook, Kuras, Emily Graves and Raab took second in the 4×400 (4:02.81).

Zeeland West’s Avery Towne took sixth in the 800 (2:22.45). Evie Kleinheksel took ninth in the 1,600 (5:30.19). Kaila Keeler was 10th in the 3,200 (12:24.26). Amaya Brott (48.48) and Megan Dalman (48.52) went 8-9 in the 300 hurdles. Brott took seventh in the high jump (4-10).

Division 3

The Saugatuck boys finished 10th in the Division 3 meet with 1,182.5 points. Ithaca won the meet with 1,649.

Charlie Robison took fifth in the 100 meters (11.57) and 200 meters (23.40). He was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (41.17).

Grant Rehkopf was fourth in the 800 meters (2:04.12).

Rehkopf teamed with Alek Diaz, Ira Brown and Sawyer Monroe to tske second in the 4×800 relay (8:21.49).
