Colombia vs DR Congo: World Cup 2026 Preview

Having lost friendlies to France and Croatia just before the World Cup got underway, there were a few concerns as to how Colombia would fare in North America. Any doubts were cast aside thanks to an impressive performance that featured goals from Daniel Munoz, Diaz and Jaminton Campaz against the Uzbeks.

Los Cafeteros looked scintillating in attack and could have easily scored more than three, with Diaz hitting the woodwork in the early going. Captain James Rodriguez also provided a constant threat wide on the right, while Jefferson Lerma helped control the midfield.

The only slight concern for Lorenzo will be that Uzbekistan were able to carve out plenty of opportunities. His side looked particularly vulnerable from balls into the box, with goalkeeper Camilo Vargas looking ill at ease when trying to collect crosses.

DR Congo will hope to take full advantage of any uncertainty at the back as they seek to deliver another upset. Desabre’s men put in an incredible defensive display against Portugal and expertly took their chance when Wissa drew them level on the stroke of half-time.

The Leopards were rarely troubled in the second half, with midfielder Samuel Moutoussamy providing plenty of cover for his hard-working defenders. He’ll be required to deliver another energetic display and will have to help his full-backs deal with the twin Diaz-Rodriguez threat.

The only slight concern will be whether the DR Congo players will be feeling the effects of their efforts in the Texas heat as they can expect to come under plenty of pressure throughout the 90 minutes.
