Czechia vs Mexico: World Cup 2026 Preview
Though Czechia took the lead in their opening game through Ladislav Krejci, it came against the run of play and South Korea fully deserved the victory. Similarly, while they led for almost 80 minutes against South Africa, they conceded far too many chances before being punished.
Despite those two underwhelming performances, it is unlikely that Miroslav Koubek will make many changes for this crunch clash against Mexico. That means he will need much more at both ends of the pitch, particularly from a defence that has looked all too porous.
Czechia will also be hoping that Patrik Schick can find his best form after two disappointing displays. The Bayer Leverkusen forward certainly knows how to find the back of the net, having scored 22 club goals last season.
In stark contrast to Czechia, Mexico have experienced a dream start. They swept past South Africa thanks to goals from Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez’s emotional first tournament goal, before earning a 1-0 win over South Korea courtesy of a second-half strike from midfielder Luis Romo.
Having already confirmed a knockout spot, and with top spot already assured, the pressure is well and truly off, and they will want to put on a show for their fans in Mexico City.
Javier Aguirre is unlikely to make too many changes, though defender Cesar Montes may come back into the side after serving his one-game suspension following his red card against South Africa.
