Sixteen years ago, Spain entered the World Cup on the back of winning the European Championships. They finished top of the group stage and then defeated Portugal 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals. They didn’t concede again as they lifted the trophy for the first time.

After drawing their first two games and receiving plenty of criticism, Belgium have scored 12 goals in three matches to arrive in the quarter-finals with renewed confidence and belief.
The team produced a remarkable comeback to overcome Senegal in the round of 32 and then came together to thump the USA. Much of this recent success comes down to some brave decisions from manager Rudi Garcia.
He kept veteran midfielder Kevin de Bruyne on the bench against the US and put his faith in Charles De Ketelaere ahead of Romelu Lukaku. The Atalanta forward rewarded the decision with two goals. His movement could prove key to unlocking Spain’s miserly defence.
