USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina: World Cup 2026 Preview
Pochettino and the co-hosts have progressed comfortably enough, winning their first two group stage games against Paraguay and Australia to etch their name into this fixture well in advance.
First place in the group secured, they proceeded to blot their copybook with a last-gasp 3-2 loss to eliminated Turkey in Los Angeles.
If the USMNT can power past Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight, that loss will be forgotten, as well as irrelevant. Pochettino shuffled the pack and came up with a very different XI to the one that will line-up in the round of 32. Folarin Balogun, Antonee Robinson and Christian Pulisic should all return.
Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified as the fifth-best third-placed team, but their four-point haul meant that Sergej Barbarez’s team had realistically qualified as soon as they’d beaten Qatar 3-1 in their final Group B game. Bayer Leverkusen newbie Alajbegovic, just 18, led the way, while at the other end of the age spectrum 40-year-old Edin Dzeko was involved in the second, credited as an own goal.
They came through a group with a co-host, which isn’t to be underestimated, and were within 13 minutes of beating Canada in Toronto in the first game. They were, tough, distinctly off-colour in a 4-1 loss to Switzerland.
Group B was no tap-in for the Dragons, but their degree of difficulty is about to take a huge leap upwards in their maiden knockout fixture.

United States 3-2 Bosnia and Herzegovina
FourFourTwo predicts a game in which the Americans always have their noses in front, but their opponents refuse to go away.
