“Indian team is up there with Australia”: Sophia Dunkley highlights crucial preparation for T20 World Cup

Chennai : The last time these two sides met in a bilateral series, India women scripted history by securing a maiden T20I series win against England. A few months later, in Nov, India went on to clinch their first ODI World Cup title.

Now, the two teams are set to renew their rivalry in a three-match T20I series starting on Thursday in Chelmsford, ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held across England later this year. India have firmly established themselves as a force to reckon with and England opener Sophia Dunkley believes the side is on par with powerhouse Australia.

England, who last won the T20 World Cup in 2009, head into the series on the back of a dominant 2-1 victory over New Zealand. Dunkley, who began her career in the middle-order and has now cemented her place at the top, feels the India series will be the ideal buildup to the World Cup.

“The series against India is going to put our skills under a lot of pressure, which is perfect prep ahead of the mega event. We haven’t been together in this particular T20 line-up for a long time, so it’s about finding the right combinations and becoming really familiar with those ahead of the WC.”
