Hakan Calhanoglu recently produced his best performance of the season, leading the comeback against Como and powering Inter to the Coppa Italia final. The star is in a precarious position, as his contract expires in 2027. He’d be due for a renewal to stay in normal situations, but he’ll stay regardless, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).

The Turkish international has been linked to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray more than a few times in the past. The Cimbom have routinely expressed optimism about his arrival, but they’ll have to wait.

Inter and Calhanoglu are expected to stick together and tackle the renewal only down the line, not necessarily before the summer window. The playmaker currently makes €6.5M per year. The management had some doubts and had been considering offering him a lower salary while he navigated muscular injuries. However, he’s been tremendous upon returning, and Christian Chivu considers him indispensable.

His agent, Gordon Stipic, addressed the chatter to the same publication last week.

“He’s under contract until 2027, and he’s very happy in Italy and at Inter. The rumors about Galatasaray resurfaced, but the facts are clear: there has been no negotiation with them, neither last summer nor in January. They never made any request or showed concrete interest. He remains focused on this season and is looking forward to the World Cup.”

Our Take on Inter and Calhanoglu

The officials might have wavered at some point because of the wages, his two injuries in a row, and the tiring buzz about other sides, but Chivu anointed him right away, and he’s been terrific pretty much all season. Playing out contracts has become pretty standard at this point, and replacing him would be quite the challenge.
