The IPL confirmed the penalty in an official statement after SRH’s crushing 82-run defeat on Tuesday night.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the statement read.
The fine came on a disappointing evening for Hyderabad, who were completely outplayed by Gujarat Titans in a one-sided contest. GT produced a clinical all-round performance to move to the top of the IPL 2026 points table.
After being put in to bat, Gujarat posted a competitive total of 168/5, powered by a composed 61 from Sai Sudharsan and a crucial half-century from Washington Sundar.
In reply, SRH’s explosive batting lineup collapsed under pressure and were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs. Jason Holder and Kagiso Rabada starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each to dismantle Hyderabad’s batting order.
With the fine, Cummins joins a growing list of IPL 2026 captains penalised for slow over-rate offences this season.
