IPL points table after Match 48: CSK climb to sixth after dominant win; DC slip further in playoff race

Chasing 156 on a tricky surface, CSK completed the target in just 17.3 overs thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 87 from Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper-batter anchored the chase with seven fours and six sixes, while Kartik Sharma provided strong support with an unbeaten 41 off 31 balls. After early wickets of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel, the pair steadied the innings and ensured there were no late hiccups.
The victory lifted CSK to sixth place on the points table with 10 points from 10 matches and a net run rate of +0.151, keeping them firmly in the playoff race.
Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, continued their poor run at home and slipped to seventh place with eight points from 10 matches and a worrying NRR of -0.949. Another defeat has now left DC under serious pressure heading into the final stretch of the league phase.
Earlier, CSK bowlers produced a disciplined effort on a slow Delhi pitch to restrict DC to 155/7. Noor Ahmad picked up two wickets, while Akeal Hosein, Mukesh Choudhary, Jamie Overton and Gurjapneet Singh chipped in with one wicket each.
DC were struggling at 69/5 before Tristan Stubbs (38) and Sameer Rizvi (40 not out) added 65 runs for the sixth wicket to rescue the innings. However, the total proved below par against a confident CSK batting lineup.
At the top of the table, Punjab Kings remain first with 13 points, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are all tied on 12 points, intensifying the playoff race.
