This is not the first time KKR has faced criticism over the issue. Since 2025, sections of fans have repeatedly accused the franchise of not acknowledging Iyer’s role enough in the IPL 2024 title-winning campaign.
Meanwhile, KKR had a disappointing IPL 2026 season under Ajinkya Rahane. The side managed only six wins in 14 matches and failed to qualify for the playoffs. KKR also suffered six consecutive defeats during the season before staying in contention for a playoff spot until their final league match.
Iyer’s exit from KKR before the 2025 mega auction had surprised many fans, especially after he led the franchise to the title.
