Jake Paul has criticised the pacing of Matchroom and Ring Magazine events after Saturday’s high-profile card at the Pyramids of Giza.

The setting was spectacular, with Oleksandr Usyk headlining against Rico Verhoeven in one of the most eye-catching boxing spectacles of the year.

Yet Paul, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, was not convinced the broadcast matched the occasion, as he took aim at the downtime between fights.

Last Saturday, Paul wrote on X: “Today is a prime example of why people hate these Matchroom-Ring events or whoever is doing it. So much talking and time in between events.

“How have these peeps been doing it for so long and not realized that running back to back fights is what fans want? These British accents talking about this and that bro come on….”

He added: “I’ve been tuned in since 1pm and I still just here [hearing] Tony Bellew talking about what he once did. There’s a reason MVP is on top.”

The complaint was blunt, but it also matched MVP’s wider public stance. Nakisa Bidarian recently argued that mainstream athlete identity made MVP’s Netflix card more successful than the upcoming UFC Freedom 250, at the White House.

That makes Paul’s comment more than a swipe at a rival event. It was another attempt to frame MVP as a promotion built around pace and star power.

Whether fans accept that argument is another matter, but the YouTuber-turned-boxer clearly believes boxing broadcasts should move faster. For him, the Pyramids backdrop was not enough if the rhythm tested patience.
