Former MLB manager and Hamilton Badin High School standout Jim Tracy was on hand April 26 to watch his son Chad’s big league managerial debut with the Boston Red Sox, a 5-3 win at Baltimore’s Camden Yards.
Jim, who attended Xavier University and Marietta College, managed in MLB for 11 seasons, with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2001-05; the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2006-07; and the Colorado Rockies from 2009-12.
Chad Tracy, who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals, has managed the Red Sox’s Triple-A Worcester team since 2002. He became Boston’s interim manager when the team parted ways with Alex Cora over the weekend.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow was asked whether Chad Tracy will manage the Red Sox for the rest of the 2026 season.
“We believe that Chad is the right guy to handle this transition and we’re going to put all of our effort into supporting him to do that,” Breslow said, per MLB.com’s Ian Browne. “And we’ll kind of figure out where that leads us.”
