Fenerbahce have decided to terminate the contract of José Mourinho as their manager, a day after the Turkish side failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

The 62-year-old coach, who joined Fenerbahce only eight months ago, leaves the club after just two matches in the current season. The team was eliminated by Benfica in the qualifying rounds.

During his brief stint in Istanbul, Mourinho guided Fenerbahce to second place in the Super Lig but failed to secure any silverware. The club was knocked out of the Turkish Cup in the quarter-finals and eliminated by Rangers in the Europa League round of 16.

Mourinho’s departure marks another chapter in his storied managerial career, which has seen him manage top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan.

Fenerbahce now faces the challenge of appointing a new manager to stabilize their campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
